The Government of the Republic of Honduras is based on the democratic system and is divided into three branches:
Executive, legislative, and judiciary. The country is divided into 18 departments or states and every 4 yrs, a new president, legislator from the different states is elected through a multi party system. The two dominant parties are the conservative party and the liberal party.
The current president is Manual Rosales Zelaya, the liberal party leader, who took office in January of 2006. The Roatan Bay Island governor is Arlie Thompson
